Division 1: Clarbeston Road 3-4 Goodwick United

Goodwick United shaded a seven-goal thriller against a Clarbeston Road outfit who made them fight hard for three valuable points.

Based on current form it was no surprise that the away team were in the ascendancy early on and went close within five minutes as Clarby defender Charlie George nearly turned a dangerous cross into his own net.

Minutes later, that lucky escape was undone when Steff Williams worked well down the left and his pinpoint cross found Johnny Horgan at the far post - and he coolly slotted past Sam Edge.

After a slow start the home team tried to get back in the game and Matt Ellis blazed a free kick just over the bar.

Minutes later and Goodwick added their second following good play down the right, and with Clarby claiming offside, it was James Bryan who was fed the ball from Horgan, and he duly planted it into an empty net.

Clarby to their full credit pulled one back, from a half-cleared corner Joules Ward’s shot was blocked by Scott Delaney, and from the edge of the box Charlie George sweetly struck a half volley that crashed into the net.

Richie Bevan missed a sitter which would have levelled matters - but Bevan soon made amends when Clarby were awarded a penalty as the ball struck Jordan Griffiths’ arm inside the box, and the striker made no mistake with the spot-kick to level matters at 2-2 at half time.

Shortly after the break and Goodwick added their third of the game, Nick Rees’ free kick was met by a clinical far post header from Steff Williams.

But Clarby refused to throw in the towel and Ben John squared matters after he latched onto an inch perfect pass from Ellis to score past James Gwilt.

Sam Edge pulled off a superb save to deny substitute Kieran O’Brien’s rasping shot and Rhys Dalling also fired a low shot wide as the visitors pressed for a winner.

At the other end Gwilt pulled off a cracking save to deny Bevan - but on the 70-minute mark the visitors grabbed the winner. Nick Rees struck a low hard 30-yard free kick which flew into the net to seal matters.
