JD Cymru South:

Haverfordwest County 2

Llantwit Major 1

Jack Wilson struck a dramatic late winner for Haverfordwest County who scraped a slender victory against Llantwit Major at the Bridge Meadow.

Ben Fawcett gave The Bluebirds a slender half time lead and midway through the second period Major’s substitute Harry Davies swept home a close-range equaliser.

In the 88th minute Wilson struck a late winner to secure three precious points for the fortunate home outfit.

The Bluebirds were without Ricky Watts (calf) and goalkeeper Steven Hall who may miss the rest of the season after sustaining knee ligament damage in last week’s Welsh Cup defeat at the bands of Cambrian & Clydach.

The home side’s cause wasn’t helped when top scorer Marcus Griffiths limped off in the first half with an injury to his calf and was replaced by match winner Wilson.

It was the visitors who had the better of the first period, with Haverfordwest County keeper Kyle Stuart having a relatively quiet time.

Ben Fawcett and Miles John both had wicked shots saved by Jack Lansdown, but just before the break the hosts finally opened the scoring, Fawcett cutting in from the right and striking a terrific left footed rocked which flew into the net.

After the break the hosts failed to get a hold on the game, defensively the Bluebirds did well with the returning Sam Rodon having an immaculate game in the heart of defensive alongside Daniel Alfie, Harri Rowe, and skipper Sean Pemberton.

The visitors equalised when Davies made no mistake from eight yards and at that stage it looked as if this tussle was heading for a draw.

Minutes later and Josh Morgan missed a decent chance to give his side the lead, the striker dragging his shot from inside the box just wide.

However, late in the game the hosts had a final throw of the dice and it came off. Kieran Howard’s free kick was nodded back at the far post by Tim Hicks and super sub Wilson toe-poked home the winner from inside the six-yard box.

“We’ve got out of jail,” confessed Haverfordwest County manager Wayne Jones.

“Jack’s goal and sealing victory I feel will have a massive bearing come the end of the season, mark my words.

“We didn’t play well but we have got the important win and that’s all that counts at the end of the day.”
