JD Cymru South:

Haverfordwest County 1

Briton Ferry Llansawel 4

Haverfordwest County suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of a determined Briton Ferry Llansawel at a rain swept Bridge Meadow Stadium under lights on Friday night.

Joe Hunt gave the visitors a one-goal cushion at half time, shortly after the break saw Cameron Harris add the second, before Ben Fawcett pulled one back, luckless Miles John scored an own goal before Stephen Davey added a late fourth.

The Bluebirds made only one change from the starting line-up that narrowly beat Llantwit Major 2-1 last Saturday. Centre back Sam Rodon was unwell, so Scott Tancock moved from midfield to take his place in defence and Ricky Watts returned from injury and featured in centre midfield.

Back in August, The Bluebirds won 4-2 at Ferry, but in this return fixture the visitors grabbed a thoroughly deserved win against a poor Bluebirds outfit on the night.

Conah McFenton pulled off an excellent save to deny John from opening the scoring for the hosts.

In the 12th minute a terrible mistake by Daniel Alfei just outside his own 18-yard box allowed Hunt to nip in and score with keeper Kyle Stuart caught in no man’s land.

Ferry came close to increasing their lead seven minutes before the break when skipper Luke Harris’ far post header struck the post.

Shortly after the break and Marcus Griffiths struck a stunning edge of the box shot straight at McFenton.

The hosts conceded a second just minutes later, the Bluebirds defence was caught square which allowed Cameron Harris to ghost through and steer his effort past the helpless Stuart.

Midway through the second period and Wayne Jones’ outfit pulled one back, excellent play by Griffiths down the left and his cross was met at the far post by Fawcett. At that stage a fightback was on the cards.

Kieran Howard had a close range bundled effort cleared off the line, immediately Ferry counter attacked and Davey’s low drilled cross from the right was cruelly diverted by John into his own net as the visitors led 1-3.

Right at the death the visitors got caught by another counter and it resulted in Davey calmly threading his low shot past Stuart to complete the scoring.

On Tuesday, 26th November, Haverfordwest County face another stiff test at Ammanford in a re-arranged game.
