Nigel Delaney made his debut for the Wales Over 45s on the weekend - and in doing so helped the team win an international trophy.

The Goodwick assistant coach was selected for the squad to compete in the Home Nations Veterans tournament in Boughton in Chester.

Joining Wales were England, Scotland, and a Chester Nomads side. Saturday saw each side play each other once, and Wales beat The Nomads 4-0, drew 1-1 with England and lost 2-1 against Scotland - which was enough to qualify for Sunday’s final.

And there they met Scotland again, and this time around won 3-1 thanks to goals from Neil Williams, namesake Johnny, and Ricky John.

Neil finished as the tournament top scorer while Johnny was named best player. Delaney, who currently plays for Swansea University 45s and also represented Wales over 40s last season, featured as centre back throughout.
