All Wales Sport Trophy (South): Haverfordwest Ladies 73-0 Ynysddu

Haverfordwest Ladies enjoyed an emphatic victory over Ynysddu in their final home game of the year.

And perhaps more pleasing was that they were able to field 18 club players during a season where they have seriously struggled for numbers.

There were hat-tricks for Scarlets duo Rhian Swift and Awen Prysor, with Army wing Amber Starr-Palmer getting two tries. Holly Couzens, Emily Carrington and Lampeter’s Jen Blume also got their names on the scoresheet, with Couzens adding eight conversions and Joanna Price one.

Price was one of few returning players who made second-half cameos from the bench, including Maria Phillips and Natasha Thomas.

Inspired by sister Lisa’s Wales display on Saturday, Scarlets forward Jana Neumann impressed in the second row alongside captain Ali Hopson-Griffiths, while Christine Selby was solid on her debut.

Ynysddu to their credit made the long trip west with a bare 14, but preferred not to use players offered to them, so Haverfordwest matched numbers.

Their forwards, in particular Stephanie Feeney, carried tirelessly and it took several defenders to bring her to ground. But there was no consolation for their efforts as Haverfordwest’s defence held tight.

Haverfordwest will be hoping for similar squad numbers so they can travel to Deri Diamonds next Sunday in what will be their final game of the year.

Training is at Sir Thomas Picton School astro at 7pm on Thursdays.
