JD Cymru South:

Haverfordwest County 3

Pontypridd Town 1

An injury time Jack Wilson screamer secured Haverfordwest County a hard-fought narrow victory against Pontypridd Town at a rain swept Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Vaughan Fowler struck an early opener before the Bluebirds hit back with goals in the second half from Ben Fawcett and Miles John. James Bloom struck an 87th minute equaliser for the visitors who looked as if they had salvaged a point.

Deep in injury time Wilson cut in from the left and the teenager struck a magnificent 20-yard curler which flew in the top corner to secure a massive win for the high-flying Bluebirds

This important result sees The Bluebirds stay two points clear at the top of the table of the chasing pack.

The Bluebirds won 3-1 at Pontypridd Town at the start of the season and this narrow victory gave them the double over gritty opponents.

Fowler struck from distance to give his side the perfect start, Wilson fired agonisingly wide from a half cleared free kick.

Sean Pemberton went close from inside the box, Kieran Howard’s free kick caused mayhem as the ball hit the post. Fawcett’s clever turn and shot was deflected for a corner.

However, the visitors were hung onto their slender 1-0 cushion at half time.

After the break, the Bluebirds got back on level terms on the hour mark when Fawcett pounced from inside the six-yard box.

Three minutes later and the Bluebirds got their noses in front, Wilson’s low hard cross from the left was met by John who finished clinically from 12 yards.

As the game was heading for a win up popped Bloom in to capitalise from a poor clearance - and he buried his low drive from the edge of box into the far corner.

That goal should have given the visitors a share of the spoils, but deep in injury time Howard was denied and then Wilson struck a sublime winner to secure three vital points.

On Tuesday, 17th December, Haverfordwest County are home against Swansea University, and kick off is at 7.30pm.

Bluebirds’ skipper Sean Pemberton will serve a one match suspension, but Harri Rowe who missed this clash through suspension will be available.

“Overall I’m happy with the performance,” said Haverfordwest County manager Wayne Jones.

“We conceded early and got back in the game in the second half with two well taken goal.

“They levelled matters late on, but we kept pressing and Jack came up with a wonder goal, it was real Roy of the Rovers stuff.”
