Second Division Cup Round 1: St Ishmaels 2-3 Johnston

Joey George was the hero as Second Division Cup holders Johnston won an exciting tie at St Ishmaels.

With the game poised at 2-2 on 75 minutes, it was George who took a pass off Scott Crawford and finished neatly into the bottom corner.

The Tigers had earlier taken the lead through a Kieran Rendall own goal 25 minutes in when from a corner, the ball deflected in off the unlucky defender.

And then five minutes before the break it was Crawford who dispossessed Marc Devonald on half way before trying an audacious long range shot that sailed over Tish keeper Andrew Pawlett and into the net.

Tish had chances to fight back and they did strike on the 65 minute mark when Adam Kingsbeer cut onto his left foot and drilled a 15 yard shot into the top corner.

And with 14 minutes to go the game was back in the balance when Owen Lawrie turned in the box and powerfully shot past Johnston keeper Jim Payne.

But almost immediately The Tigers were back in front when a scramble in the Tish area saw Bradley Cristofaro block a shot and the loose ball fell to Crawford, who duly teed up George to strike the winner.

The home side did still have some late pressure but couldn’t find the leveller they needed to force extra time.

The Tigers will now host Hakin United 2nds in the last eight.
