Division 1: Clarbeston Road 4-2 Narberth

Ben ‘Rocky’ John scored twice to help Clarbeston Road to a hard-fought victory over Narberth at Knock field.

This was the only game played in Division One and it was Matt Ellis’ Clarby outfit with the wind at their back who built up a 3-0 cushion at half time, Narberth pulled two goals back in the second period, setting up a tense finish, but the hosts also scored a late fourth to pick up their sixth win of the season.

The hosts were awarded an early penalty when John beat the defender who slipped, and his arm was out, and Paul Rooney adjudged him to have handled on the floor. Striker John stepped up and buried it.

On 20 minutes the hosts doubled the lead, the ball spread wide down Clarby right and Keegan Summers gave chase - clipped an inch perfect cross to John who strongly volleyed an eight yard far post volley into the right hand corner.

Fifteen minutes later and they added their third of the afternoon. From a half-cleared corner player/manager Ellis bundled home.

Ryan Williams’ troops had the wind advantage in the second period, and they pulled one back ten minutes after the break. A long ball was misjudged by Rheinallt George and Ashley Williams slotted past Dave Pepper.

This spurred the visitors into action and on 68 minutes Liam Price added their second to get his side right back in the game.

In form John beat a defender in the box but the striker was taken down from behind, referee Paul Rooney immediately pointed to the spot. John dusted himself off and struck a firm shot from 12 yards which Adam Frearson dived to his left, the keeper pulling off a superb save.

Minutes later Frearson was nearly on the score sheet after his penalty heroics. The keeper’s long punt upfield was carried by the wind and Pepper was nearly caught out back tracking and was relieved to see the ball bounce off the top of the crossbar.

Narberth continued to press in search of an equaliser, but it was Matthew Davies who put the game safe when he turned in a cross into the bottom right hand corner, securing the points for Clarby in a highly entertaining affair.
