Pembrokeshire Football League fixtures for Saturday, February 29 (all 2pm kick offs):

Division 1:

Clarbeston Road 4-1 St Clears

Having been in good form, it was surprising to see how badly Clarby were hammered at Monkton last Saturday.

I don't expect them to be that poor again against a St Clears side who competed better than 4-1 suggested at Neyland, conceding two late goals having earlier been level through a winder strike from Will Evans.

But The Saints are still yet to win in the league and have now lost co-manager Scott Page, and lie seven points from safety.

I think Clarby, especially if Ben John fires, will bounce back.

Goodwick United 4-1 Fishguard Sports

After four weeks without a game, Goodwick would have been delighted to have won at Hakin in the West Wales Cup. It may have been scrappy but those are the kind of games you need to come through when it matters.

They face a different test here against their neighbours who took them to extra time in the Senior Cup. Although Fishguard were soundly beaten at Carew last week and had to play Patrick Hughes in goal with Dean Hopson unavailable.

It's a big week coming up for Goodwick with a derby, Senior Cup semi final, and West Wales quarter final all within eight days, and Wayne O'Sullivan may cintemplate rotation.

I think they'll have too much for Fishguard at Phoenix Park, but unlike that cup tie, will want to avoid the visitors starting well.

Merlins Bridge 2-3 Carew

Bridge won 5-1 at Pennar last week but it came at a cost with a nasty ankle injury to Joe Leahy. He will be a big miss in the run in.

Carew also hit five to beat Fishguard as Scott Ferney continues to fire, and there has also been a welcome return for James Hinchliffe in recent weeks.

The Rooks have been in great form since Christmas, including beating the Bridge, and Leahy's absence may give them an edge here.

Like Goodwick though, both sides have Senior Cup semi finals coming up in midweek. While they are both technically still in the title race, the reality is it's that competition which now looks their most likely route to silverware.

It remains to be seen if that affects selection or performance on Saturday.

Monkton Swifts 8-0 Saundersfoot Sports

Monkton are another with a Cup semi final looming, and no disrespect to Saundersfoot, but this is the game they would have wanted to warm up for it.

The Swifts have already won 3-1 against the same side and were free scoring on Saturday to put nine past Clarby, with Ben Steele adding four more to his season tally.

They'll need three points to stay top of the table so won't take this lightly, and it could be another long day in store for the Sports.

Narberth 2-2 Neyland

Narberth now haven't played since February 1st, so it's hard to gauge what they'll bring on Saturday.

Neyland have had an eventful few weeks. Out the West Wales Cup, then seemingly back in, and that win over St Clears would have ended any lingering fears of a relegation battle.

The following week they have a possible West Wales quarter final with Trostre so need a good 90 minutes here. Narberth won the reverse fixture 3-2 and I can see this being tight again.

Pennar Robins 1-5 Hakin United

Hakin now have to turn a negative into a positive. Losing to Goodwick last week would have been painful but leaves them to put all their efforts into the title race.

They beat Pennar 7-1 only last month and The Robins have been struggling of late, and have lost their last five in the league.

The Vikings were guilty of missing first half chances against Goodwick but I expect them to have too much for the home side in attack.

They have also been boosted this week by the return if Jake Merry from Haverfordwest County, who should be eligible for the weekend.
