Clarbeston Road AFC senior players have finished a marathon effort for the NHS.

Originally, they set out to run a total of 1140 miles in 19 days and raise £1,000 for much needed club funds and for the NHS. In the end they exceeded both totals by coming in 1000 miles above target and the donations currently sit at £3775.25 .

Three weeks ago the Clarby players embarked on the challenge to collectively run a total of 60 miles a day for 19 days - with all efforts having to be a secluded individual road run and logged onto an app so distances were verified.

The players got off to a flier on day one with over 101 miles recorded, and saved the best for last on day 19 with their record mileage for a single day - a massive 260 miles!

Overall, 37 runners took part and there were seven runners who exceeded 100 miles, with Dan Rees topping the charts with 164.34 over the course of the challenge. By the end, there were no less than three marathon and 33 half marathon distances covered.

Telegraph Sport reporter Fraser Watson also chipped in, contributing nearly 50 miles.

The team effort was further supported by the committee and junior section of the club, who over the two Sunday’s during the 19 days were out themselves posting runs.

The initial target was duly passed on day 12 so the target was upped to 1960, the year the club was formed. That was passed on the final day with a total of 2160 miles completed - and the support runners added a further 180 miles.

“This has been a great effort by the whole club at this difficult time," said Matt Fox, a coach at the club.

"The togetherness shown to not only complete the task and reach the target mileage, but to pass it considerably, just shows the level of engagement and commitment to this challenge by all involved."

"Given expenditure costs have continued, yet income to cover operating costs has all but ceased, it was an important dual fund raiser for the club and to show our support to those working hard for the NHS.

"We are really grateful for those who have supported us all the way and for those who have donated to the two causes."

The donation page will remain open until the weekend and can be found here.
