The secondary schools in Pembrokeshire may be closed, but pupils at Milford Haven are still planning to visit them all next week for charitable causes.

Craig Butland, the Active Young People Officer, has organised the MHS Race Around the Schools 2020 Challenge. Starting Monday, it will require students to cover 257 miles in just 12 days.

That’s the combined distance of return trips from Milford to Ysgol Preseli, Bro Gwaun, Penrhyn Dewi, Castle School, Greenhill, Caer Elen, Haverfordwest High, and Harri Tudur.

“We are aiming to raise money for five charities,” Butland explained.

“Get The Boys A Lift, Greenacres, PATCH, Sandy Bears and Mind.

“Four of those are linked to the four school houses at Milford and MIND is the charity that I and the school decided.”

Those involved will upload their runs and walks to a Strava group where the distance covered will be totted up each day. Those who don’t have it will be e-mailing Butland with screenshots of their run details.

“We hope that all of our pupils and staff will support this fundraising challenge,” read a school statement.

“There is a house competition to see which house can collate the most miles within this challenge, and there will also be an individual leader board for the competitive sports people among us.”

“This is all about fun, fitness and supporting some great local causes.”
