Andrew Thomas has been pivotal in rebuilding Angle since the club dropped out of the Pembrokeshire League – and now oversees a young squad in Division 5.

As well as the manager and the behind the scenes work, he’s also in goal for the team and has been an excellent player for the club over the last 20 years. However, he’s modestly not included himself in the ‘team of the century’.

“From my point of view, ‘It’s been very hard picking a side and there are a lot of players unfortunate not to be included,” he admitted.

“But hopefully in 20 years I’ll be able to pick again with some of the current players. Dropping out of the league hurt but it also helped us bring through a cracking under 16s side who are doing well in the fifth division.

“A lot of opposition managers have praised the players after games.”

Regardless, here’s what he’s come up with us after two decades of highs and lows:

GOALKEEPER – HUGH RICHARDS

A very brave goalkeeper and excellent in saving one on ones. Saved us in games quite a few time and I think could have gone further. To be fair there was an abundance of keepers I could have picked and Luke Lawrence was one who his very unlucky. He was a fantastic keeper but Hugh just gets my nod.

RIGHT BACK - GARETH PHILLIPS

Very quick full back and good defensively as well. A solid choice.

CENTRE BACK – HAYDN PHILLIPS

Good in the air and on the floor as well. Comfortable with the ball at his feet and all in all, a strong all round player.

CENTRE BACK - KEVIN WINSTONE

Another who was formidable in the air and a brilliant tackler. Likes to carry the ball upfield.

LEFT BACK - ANDREW POWELL

Like Gareth, ‘Abbey’ was a quick full back and a real asset going forward. Very reliable performer.

RIGHT MIDFIELD – CRAIG BROCKWAY

Had such a good right foot and a gifted played. Scored some very good goals for us but was also unlucky with injuries.

CENTRE MIDFIELD – LEE BROCKWAY

A talented player and very skilful. Craig’s brother and they would of course go on to Pennar and play in a Senior Cup final – and Lee was man of the match in that. That came as no surprise.

CENTRE MIDFIELD – KEVIN JENKINS

The only person I know who would go out with bandages all over his legs every single week, and yet he still gave his all. Always made us laugh as he couldn’t move after a game, but come 10pm that night he’d be the best dancer out of all of us.

LEFT MIDFIELD – TERRY RICHARDS

Quick and the best left foot I’ve seen in Pembrokeshire football.  Scored so many goals for Angle and was still playing into 50s – and funnily enough I did try to get him out again the year before last when we were struggling in Division 1.

STRIKER – CHRIS RICHARDS

He was our ‘Mr Moaner’ but a brilliant player. Scored a lot of goals for us, and even when he wasn’t playing you knew he could still come up with something. I likened him to Luis Suarez - niggly, would get on or nerves as well as the opposition – but he knew where the net was.

STRIKER - KENNY CHADWICK

Also liked a moan but what a player. Another brilliant goal scorer for us.

SUBSTITUTES

JASON DAVIES

Could play anywhere for Angle and a brilliant club man. Has come back to us this season from Cosheston but even when he wasn’t playing with us he still sponsored the club.

ADAM SEATON

Could play anywhere in the back four and in midfield too. He was like my Vinny Jones and loved a tackle.

SCOTT RICHARDS

Very unlucky not to start. A brilliant clubman who recovered from breaking his leg and has since gone onto Carew to play in the First Division - and was in defence for them in both a Senior and West Wales Cup final last season.

MANAGER

PETER THOMAS – Have to go with my dad on this one. A very calm man who didn’t say a lot, but he knew how to get the best out of players and so highly respected.

ASSISTANT MANAGER

CHRIS LLOYD - Came down from Pennar and really did change things at Angle. His training was fantastic and he brought us on a level, which showed when he got us us promoted from second division.
