Here is the best Carew squad over the last two decades picked by long serving stalwart Jeremy ‘Carrot’ Griffiths.

Carrot, currently assistant manager to Rob Scourfield, has picked some talented players for The Rooks who have played some cracking football over the last few seasons.

The club has made big progress and in recent times reached both the Senior and West Wales Cup finals. They tasted defeat in both but this season were just one game away from another Senior Cup final when the season was halted.

The squad is as follows:

GOALKEEPER - IAN KERRISON

Kerro played in the early 2000’s and was a reliable all-round keeper, constantly organising his defence.  Tom Davies and Ben Evans also excelled in the goal keeping department.

RIGHT BACK - SHAUN WHITFIELD

First of many players comfortable in various positions.  Whitters’ quality in defence and marauding runs down the right in attack at pace and quality gives him the nod over Kris Stone.

CENTRE HALF - GARETH LEWIS

A veteran of the current first team, Gareth has looked after himself.  He is always competitive in every training session and an excellent defender, who excels in the aerial battle.

CENTRE HALF - CURTIS HURLOW

Curtis and Gareth have gelled well together in the centre back partnership in the first team. An excellent tackler and ball player who never look flustered.

LEFT BACK - HAYDN SHAPCOTT

‘Shappy’ gets the left back shirt just ahead of Adam Chandler. He is a quality defender and is not shy of taking the odd free kick or penalty. Like Garethm a veteran of the club.

RIGHT MIDFIELD - DARYL JOHN

‘Mr Iron Man’ could have slotted into various positions.  With great pace and energy, he loved Gerald ‘Harky’ Hicks talking him through the matches.

MIDFIELD - IWAN IZZARD

Izzy and Deano would have been the perfect partnership.  Izzy is a versatile player, aggressive with quality touches and awareness.

MIDFIELD - DEAN ROSSITER

Deano played in the midfield for just over one season.  Great quality in all aspects of distribution and shooting.  A formidable player who bossed the midfield.

LEFT MIDFIELD - LLOYD HUGHES

Lloydy is another talented youngster with natural ability. He has a quality left foot and is an excellent dribbler who scored important goals last season. Lloydy pips another talented left footed youngster, Fraser Finlay, who the Rooks signed this season from Pontardawe.

CENTRE FORWARD - MIKE BOSWELL

Played up front as a raw youngster with excellent pace and quality finishing. Had a knack of being in the right place.

CENTRE FORWARD - JACK CHRISTOPHER

Jack, like Dean Rossiter, played in the Welsh League for many years. Jack has all round quality, is prolific in the air, with subtle touches on the deck.  Alongside brother Sam and Scott Ferney was excellent in attack in both the Senior Cup and West Wales Cup campaign last season.

SUBSTITUTES

SCOTT FERNEY – Another talented player who has played midfield and in his preferred position up front. A lively forward with and a quality finisher.

NICK SHELMERDINE – Shelmo, a midfielder with an excellent range of passing and great energy box to box.

CHRIS STONE – Stoner played in the early noughties.  Quality in both defence and midfield.

MANAGERS - ROB SCOURFIELD AND ADAM HUGHES

Rob ‘Turkey’ Scourfield has taken the team to three Senior Cup semi finals and a final, two West Wales Cup semi-finals and a final.  An excellent motivator who demands 100% every game.

Adam started the development of the current players with the likes of Shaun Whitfield, Alex Bayley, Lloyd Hughes, Scott Ferney, Iwan Izzard and James Hinchliffe. Adam is a quiet but shrewd tactician who took over when the team were in Division 2, gaining promotion after two seasons.
