Bank Holiday Saturday was a big one at Milford Haven Golf Club.

On a very windy but sunny day, the men’s section held two medal competitions, the Fishing News Cup (0-14 handicap) and the Fred Dytor Cup (15-28 handicap).

The entry numbers for the day stood at 54. In the Fishing News Cup, Mark Summons was third with a nett 71 and Richard Hull second with a nett 70 - and the winner on countback was Gareth Fairburn also with nett 70.

In the Fred Dytor Cup, Maurice Coe came third with nett 80, Peter Fowler was second with a nett 78 and finishing first with a nett 76 was Ian Hicks. There were four two’s recorded for the day - James Picton, Lyndon Brown, Leigh Evans and Peter Fowler. The Competition Scratch Score was a gross 70.

In the senior section, last Thursday's stableford competition was cancelled because of heavy rain.

However, the Val French-Esso individual KO Cup has reached the semi- final stage with the draw as follows: John Skelhorn v Richard Setterfield; Mark Davies v David Britton.

The two outstanding quarter finals of the Pairs’ Knockout Cup are Paul Rowlands and John McKay v David Evans and Jeff Button, and Nigel Roberts and Rolly Council v Robin Potter and Brian Mitchell. Already, Tim Phillips and Colin Fawcett have lost to Chris Harding and Alan Dennison, and Mark Davies and Peter Derbyshire have lost to Ivor McKenzie and Gerald Slate.

The semi-finals of the John Winter Tankard saw Lyn Rees beat Alan Dennison and Gwyn Scale beat Maurice Coe.

Lyn and Gwyn will now play in the final on Sunday September, 13.
