Built on the site of an old open cast coal mine near Llanelli in South Wales, Ffos Las racecourse is one of three courses in Wales.

Only opened in 2009, it is the most modern National Hunt course in the UK. It now hosts a number of both Flat and National Hunt meetings each year.

Course: The course for both jumps and flat races is a one mile, four furlong left handed oval, with two relatively easy bends. A chute on the home straight allows for a straight run in for five and six furlong races. Our Ffos Las tips tend to look for galloping types, as the nature of the course allows them time to get into stride and maintain their speed round the bends.

In the past, Ffos Las was perhaps most famous for it’s boggy going, with heavy rain leading to extremely tough going. The West Wales National in 2015 saw just two of ten horses finish, with the winner (Bob’s Ford) finishing a full 99 lengths clear of the only other finisher, who was nearly pulled up. Drainage work in 2015 has largely fixed this issue, although following extreme weather it can still become very heavy.

Tips for today:

2:08pm – Buck Bravo

2:43pm – Sizing At Midnight

3:18pm – Ballinsker

3:53pm – Who Shot JR

4:30pm – Mere Anarchy

5:00pm – Tanrudy

5:35pm - Fleursals

2.08pm
This wide-open handicap hurdle can go to Monday's Newton Abbot winner BUCK BRAVO. He is unpenalised for that success and is a C&D winner, so should appreciate the return to this trip. If he fails to show his form on this quick return, Overworkdunderpaid might be able to cash in, especially if the rain arrives. Cottonvalewas back to form at Warwick last time and looks best of the rest. [Graeme Rodway]

2.43pm
A fascinating novice handicap chase that looks sure to throw up plenty of future winners. SIZING AT MIDNIGHT won well at Newton Abbot last time on his third start over fences and can make that experience count against several promising chasing newcomers. Wayfinder might prove best of those, while Heavey and Summit Like Herbie are others with chances.[Graeme Rodway]

3.18pm
It might be worth siding with BALLINSKER. He looked good when winning on his hurdles debut at Ludlow last year and will find this easier than when fourth in a Listed event at Haydock last time. Stimulating Song is better than he was able to show at Kempton last time and gets preference over Milkwood as the alternative.[Graeme Rodway]

3.53pm
The return to a longer trip can bring improvement from WHO SHOT JR (nap) and he is taken to break his duck over fences at the second attempt. He shaped well on his chase debut at Newton Abbot last month and should find this easier. Minella Examiner goes well fresh and looks the biggest danger ahead of the well-handicapped Still Believing. [Graeme Rodway]

4.30pm
The key horse in many respects is Dancing In The Sky, who will have strong prospects on his winning recent form over fences provided he readjusts to this discipline. He is much respected but slight preference is for MERE ANARCHY, who encouragingly won on the Flat last month when back from a break. Vinnie's Getaway is shortlisted too. [Mel Cullinan]

5.00pm
A weak handicap chase. It might be worth forgiving TANRUDY a disappointing run after a quick turnaround at Fontwell last month. He had previously made a promising reappearance at that track and shouldn't have a problem with the drop in trip. Another Tuco looks capable of better now he is dropped in class and rates the biggest danger, while the in-form Joly Maker is likely to go well again.[Graeme Rodway]

5.35pm
The two juvenile hurdlers Fraterculus and To Fly Free bring recent placed form but neither has compelling claims so the vote goes to FLEURSALS, who was flying too high on her last two starts over hurdles but is in more realistic company on her handicap debut and may have benefited from a recent breathing operation. Khanisari is undeniably well treated but is not the most reliable so perhaps the biggest threat may come from top weight Cogital, who scored on the Flat last month and may be able to build on two ordinary hurdling displays.
