CAERPHILLY'S Ben Flower will be denied a Wigan farewell after being ruled out of Friday’s Super League Grand Final against St Helens.

The veteran Wales front-rower, who is out of contract and set to leave the club, hobbled off 56 minutes into his side’s 29-2 semi-final win over Hull last Thursday and coach Adrian Lam has confirmed he has failed to recover from the leg injury.

Flower was sent off two minutes into the 2014 showpiece for repeatedly punching St Helens’ Lance Hohaia. He went on to help Wigan to triumphs in 2016 and 2018.

South Wales Argus:

The 33-year-old had been set to join Toronto until they failed to win their place back in Super League and has been linked with a move to Leigh.

The absence of Flower, who came through the Dragons academy before turning to the 13-man code, could open the door for England international George Burgess to end his first season with Wigan on a high note.
