Johnston (109 for 2) beat Whitland 2nds (105 for 9)

JOHNSTON were in control from the very outset against Whitland 2nds and were good value for an eight-wicket win which keeps them in contention for promotion.

Whitland could not have made much more of a bad start as Dai Lee was bowled from the first ball of the match by Steve Mills, who followed up two balls later by having Wayne Jones dismissed to leave their side at 0 for 2.

Matthew Davies (19) and Geraint Jones (17) put on 37 runs for the third wicket and there was 17 from Connor Bowen as Steve Mills (3 for 20) and Mills (3 for 23) were supported by Gary James (1 for 19) and Chris Fitzpatrick (1 for 16).

Whitland skipper Paul Webb anchored the innings with a typically gritty 31 not out but a target of 106 runs for victory was unlikely to overly trouble Johnstons strong batting line-up.

Mills again featured strongly as he scored a speedy 53 that contained six fours and two sixes before he was adjudged lbw to Geraint Jones (1 for 3) and Ross Dewstowe also featured in their stand of 97 as he took Johnston to victory with a robust 36 not out (four fours and a six). Paul Webb claimed 1 for 28 but Johnston were victorious in only 20 overs.
