DRAGONS hooker Richard Hibbard has been appointed as Wales Deaf forwards coach.
The 35-year-old former Lions hooker will combine his role with playing for the Dragons after signing from Gloucester last summer.
Wales won the World Deaf Rugby Sevens by beating England last year and won the World Championship at the iconic Eden Park in 2002.
Hibbard, who has made 20 appearances for the Dragons this season, will help with preparations for a clash with England in Sale on Saturday, April 13 and Norway in Oslo on Saturday, April 27.
“Rugby is a great game for all and a sport I love to play so if I can help the Wales Deaf team out and continue their success, starting with the first match against England, I’ll be delighted,” said the front rower.
David Cobner, chairman of Wales Deaf Rugby, is excited to be able to tap into the knowledge of a forward who won 38 caps and was a member of the Lions side that beat Australia in 2013.
He said: “We’re delighted to welcome Richard into our coaching team where his significant experience and knowledge is sure to be of great benefit to the players.
“His career achievements are phenomenal and he will have a positive impact in the development of deaf rugby in Wales.”
