This year’s Children In Need fundraising week in Haverfordwest High raised £13,000! From a Bushtucker Trial, pitting students against staff, to a sponsored leg-waxing, students have gone above and beyond to raise funds for charity. The staggering total was achieved as a result of the school’s creativity, dedication and hard work.

One of the highlights of Children In Need week was the daring plunge into the freezing sea- with the best turn out in the history of the school’s big dips- 140 students!

Two shivering Year 13 Haverfordwest High Students commented afterwards,

“It was so cold my teeth were chattering together and my feet were numb.”

“Even though it was freezing, it was such a worthwhile experience.”

As well as braving the icy waters, sixth formers and staff heroically sacrificed their appetites in the school’s first Bushtucker Trial, inspired by ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!’

Facing a menu of disgusting delicacies from pig’s kidneys, blended anchovies and chocolate sauce to fish heads, it's a miracle not a single sick bucket was filled!

Mr Kennerly, the champion of the blended tuna and milk round commented,

“It was delicious and it went quite well- an easy win.”

The much awaited reveal of the mystery guest, the school’s very own head teacher, sent the school into uproar- spurring her on to win the horse radish, smoked salmon and pickle juice smoothie round!

Events that featured the entire school, like the fancy dress day, also significantly contributed to the total as the school's strict uniform was transformed into an astonishing assortment of characters.

With the Head Girl as a bright orange Lorax, and inflatable dinosaurs together with famous superheroes roaming the halls, the students did not fail to disappoint!

A Year 13 Student remarked,

“I think the funniest costume was the giant neon green alien!”

The fun doesn’t stop there with countless athletic events throughout the week like a netball match with the Girl’s Netball team going head-to-head with the Boys Rugby team.

Iori Curtis’ hopeful “Game’s a game, hopefully we’ll win the next one,” following the Rugby Boys’ defeat casts a positive gaze for the future.

As well as sacrificing their leg hair, sixth form students also hosted a sponsored head shaving- clearly the students were buzzing with excitement as they neared the £10k target.

The sixth form car wash, despite its questionable cleaning methods, definitely contributed to the £9,372 raised exclusively by the Sixth Form CIN Army!

Mrs Buffee, the Head of Haverfordwest High’s Sixth Form, praised the school’s efforts stating,

“I am incredibly proud of the achievements of all involved in our fundraising efforts.”

“School is not just a place to gain qualifications but to make memories and work together as a team to give back to those less fortunate.”

Children In Need, the official charity of the BBC, helps disadvantaged children across the UK. The funds raised by Haverfordwest High VC School will contribute to vital projects that ensure that young people have access to support.

This year was the largest total the school has ever raised- a target that Haverfordwest High hopes to set even higher in the coming years.
