A PAIR of super slimmers from York have shed more than 12 stone between them after starting a health and fitness regime just over a year ago.

Greg Reynolds, 37, and wife Wendy, 44, from Fulford, have seen the pounds fall off after ditching their diet of junk food for a more active lifestyle and low calorie eating plan.

Greg said: “I have lost about seven stone and Wendy has lost five or six.

“It all started when I was in hospital a couple of years ago for a gall bladder operation. I was in a ward with a load of fat old men who had all had heart attacks and I just thought ‘that’s going to be me’.”

He said: “I was an on-and-off visitor to the gym at first, as you do, but then I started working with my trainer, Matt Stephenson.

“When I was fully recovered, I started to take the weight loss very seriously.

“I spoke to Wendy and she was pretty responsive to the idea of losing weight. She had tried before and I hadn’t helped at all, so I think it was time we both wanted to do something.”

The pair were immediately put on a low calorie diet allowed just 1,700 calories a day, which Greg said was tough at first.

“A typical meal for us would have been takeaways, pizzas, oven chips and lots of booze. Now it’s a lot fruit and yoghurt – although I do have the occasional ice lolly, which is good for a low calorie treat.

Since dropping to a trim 12 stone, Greg has joined the Knavesmire Harriers running club and is getting plenty of exercise and set himself some tough goals.

“The running is a positive thing I’m going to keep up.

“Wendy and I are doing the 10k Race For Life this year and I’m going to do the Yorkshire Marathon in October.”
