NAILSWORTH’S latest rowing star Anna Corderoy has begun her campaign at this year’s world championships in style, with her mixed coxed four easing through a comfortable first race.
As cox of the GB Paralympic crew, former Stroud High’s Corderoy handled the tough task of steering the boat, while executing the race plan with ease as her crew took a comfortably victory in the race for lanes more than 20 seconds ahead of second placed USA, racing on home water in Sarasota, Florida.
With Ukraine, Italy and Israel making up the rest of the final on Saturday, the 2km race is all that stands between Corderoy and her first world championship gold, having picked up coxing while at Oxford University only a few years ago.
The Paralympic mixed coxed four is one of team GB’s most successful in recent years, having remained unbeaten at all competitions since 2011. But this year sees a drastic change in the discipline, doubling in distance, from 1km to 2km.
