A FORMER Archway School student recently made his family extremely proud as he graduated from the RAF.

Adam Scott, 18, received a full military graduation at RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire on Tuesday, August 24 having completed a gruelling nine weeks of basic training which included aptitude, survival and physical tests.

He was one of just a few new recruits who managed to pass each test first time and did not need to have the standard nine weeks extended.

Adam, who also attended Woodchester Primary School, has now started his formal training at RAF Cosford near Wolverhampton as an avionics technician.

This involves working as an engineer and electrician on many different military aircraft.

The teenager grew up in Dudbridge, Stroud and after completing GCSEs at Archway knew he wanted to join the air force.

The selection process took two years and Adam had to complete all sorts of tough tests.

His mum Elizabeth Watkins, stepfather Ian Watkins and brother Mike Scott, 21, all attended his graduation.

"We are all so very proud of him," said Mrs Watkins.

"It is a mixture of being intensely proud and slightly fearful, knowing that he will probably get sent to Afghanistan.

"But he has some great opportunities to look forward too and I am just so pleased for him.

"His graduation was an amazing experience - we all feel part of the RAF family."

Adam, who will be known as AC (Air Crewman) Scott will live on base but hopes to come home most weekends to see family and friends and his girlfriend Jess Lee, 18, who lives in Painswick.
