John and his wonderful family were such valuable support to our family during my posting at NavFac Brawdy. The four years we spent in Haverfordwest were so memorable for us, in large part due to John and Mary and the way they welcomed and included us.

John always seemed busy helping others and was very concerned the welfare of his friends, community and church. He provided us a fascinating experience living in Wales. With stories of his early life - snatching seagull eggs during wartime rationing, rowing his siblings across the estuary to church on Sunday mornings and wartime bombing of the local refinery - he provided us a much broader experience than we otherwise would have had.

Once, when we went to London to pick up family visiting from the US, on his birthday, John mowed my lawn because "it needed it". That's the kind of gentleman John was. We will never forget him and what he meant to us.
