MEMORIES of the golden years of the Queens Hall in Narberth have been added to by one of the members of a local band which supported celebrated clarinettist Acker Bilk in 1971.
If you were watching live bands in south west Wales in the early 1970s, the chances are that you came across Whirlwind.
The four-piece band played venues throughout Pembrokeshire - and at one gig they were mobbed by teenage autograph hunters!
"We were waiting to go on stage and the announcer said that we'd been on tv - next thing we knew, there was a queue of kids waiting to get our autographs," recalled lead singer Brian Pratt of Pembroke Dock.
Brian - who was joined in the line-up by Steve Freeman, Dave Powell and John Butland - has kept an extensive scrapbook of all the band's gigs, including posters, programmes and tickets.
Amongst the memorabilia is the poster for the Acker Bilk performance at the Narberth Cricket Club Ball in the Queens Hall, where tickets were on sale for £1.25.
In later years, Whirlwind became Deep Joy and were in big demand across Pembrokeshire.
