The Minister for Rural Affairs is due to make an announcement this week on her strategy to eradicate bovine TB in the countryside. It will be interesting if she accepts the recommendations of the all Party Rural Sub-Committee which includes the setting up of localised intensive treatment areas. These treatment zones would involve the controlling of wildlife as well as cattle in these areas. Farmers have been rightly calling for this type of action for years. I suspect that she is sympathetic to this cause bearing in mind that she represents a rural constituency. However, it will be interesting to see if she has managed to persuade her colleagues in the Assembly cabinet which is dominated by Labour members.
