Nothing has riled the public more in the last 10 days more than the antics of Wayne Rooney mouthing his comments about Manchester United and then his about turn when he signed a new contract earning him a reported £250,000 A WEEK.

In comparison, the Prime Minister is on a mere £142,000 a year, if my memory serves me right.

The last few years has seen the problems with the bankers and some even now still are annoyed at the huge bonuses many of them still earn.

However in my opinion, the greed of the likes of Wayne Rooney is even more immoral in my eyes, than the greed of the bankers.

Yes, I am English as is Rooney, but his performance for England at the World Cup was poor. If I remember rightly, a guy from Pembrokeshire put a bet of about £37K on Rooney being the highest scorer of the South Africa World Cup!

Rooney's performance for Manchester United has also been under the spotlight in recent months.

We've had the debt problems of the banks and now the coalition Government is dealing with the huge UK debt, yet within a few hours of the Chancellor's Comprehensive Spending Review announcement, Manchester United give Rooney this new 5 year contract that now makes him the highest paid footballer in the world.

We also know that Manchester United is supposed to be deep in debt, so how could they justify this deal?

As the people of the UK have been mulling the Chancellor's announcement that is going to result in possibly up to 500,000 public sector workers losing their jobs, 2 fingers are stuck up to the rest of us as Wayne and Colleen will be alright!

I come from a similar background to Rooney (and his wife) and lived on a Council estate until I was 8.

However, I cannot understand how some of these footballers become so oblivious to their actions as it is the football fans, who pay to watch these matches. These are the same fans who have been losing their jobs, seeing their working hours cut, overtime removed and even pay cuts.

Until the bubble bursts, the greed will just continue and when the crash comes, will we be sympathetic? But I suppose by then, Rooney will have pocketed enough money and Colleen will then go for a possible divorce and take half of it.

I apologise for being cynical, but the greed makes me sick as no footballer is worth these stupid sums. I would even say no one should earn more than our Prime Minister, as at the end of the day, the PM can take us to war and has his finger on the nuclear button.

Maybe we don't pay our Prime Minister enough?
