A member of a well-known Pembrokeshire family, the late James Gaddarn, will be honoured at a performance of Haydn’s Creation at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel, Greenwich, this evening(Thursday).
The performance by the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, conducted by Nicholas Kramer, is dedicated to the memory of Mr Gaddarn, a former Trinity College of Music teacher who died in March at the age of 87.
His grandfather, also James Gaddarn, was a major employer in the shipping industry in Neyland in the 1800s.
Mr Gaddarn was born in Neyland, attended Pembroke Dock Grammar School and became a noted musician with a long and distinguished career.
At the invitation of Sir Malcolm Sergeant, he was chorus master of the Royal Choral Society, and for 40 years was conductor of Ealing Choral Society.
The family name is now perpetuated in the county with Neyland’s housing development, Gaddarn Way.
