The first athlete home out of a 1,482 field in today’s Ironman Wales has crossed the finishing line to a hero's welcome from crowds in Tenby.
Scotsman, Scott Neyedli came out of retirement to take on the gruelling course, and ran out winner in a time of nine hours, nine minutes and ten seconds following a 2.5 mile swim, a 112-mile cycle and a fulll marathon.
Polish Olympian Marek Jaskolka, making his Ironman debut, was nine minutes behind in second place.
There was a delighted dance on the red carpet on Tenby’s Esplanade from the first lady home - Lucy Gossage, who was repeating her Ironman UK success.
She finished a clear 25 minutes ahead of last year’s victor, Regula Rohrbach of Switzerland.
Tenby’s mayor, Councillor Sue Lane, who will be at the finishing line until the cut-off point of midnight to present Ironman medals, said: “It‘a phenomenal event, absolutely brilliant.
"I hope that we have it in Tenby for many more years to come.”
