LOCAL businesses are being urged to support government plans to relax rules on parking on double yellow lines.

Antur insurance Services, based in Haverfordwest is calling on local businesses and residents to support government plans to relax double yellow parking.

Under the plans being considered drivers would be allowed to park on double yellow lines for 15 minutes to allow them to pop into to local shops without the risk of fines.

At present, parking and waiting on double yellow lines is prohibited - unless stated - for all vehicles except for those making commercial deliveries and pick-ups, blue badge holders and the emergency services.

According to Gary Stevens, Managing Director of Antur insurance Services, relaxation of parking rules could help regenerate high street shops which have been adversely affected by costly parking and fines.

However, the firm warned that new parking rules should only take place if it was certain it would not impact on safety.

Mr Stevens said: “Unnecessary parking enforcement can have a real impact on our high street encouraging many to shop at large out of town business parks or online.

“We want to attract more people to visit and enjoy our local shops which offer some brilliant products at great value.

“Relaxing parking in a safe manner is a sure way to get more people to shop in our high street.”
