WITH his feet firmly back on the ground, an 89-year-old Royal Navy veteran from Pembroke Dock has handed over a cheque for more than £1,100 after completing a parachute jump in aid of the town’s Bicentenary celebrations.

Gerry Price became the oldest person to complete a parachute jump at Swansea Airport in July.

It was all smiles last week when Gerry presented the cheque to Pembroke Dock Bicentenary Group chairman Councillor Pam George.

Having joined the Royal Navy when he was just 15-years-old, Gerry was on board Russian and North Atlantc convoys during the Second World War.

He was imprisoned by the Vichy French in Algiers when they bombed HMS Broke and supported the D-day landings over the coast of France in 1944 on HMS Vidette.

Originally from Liverpool, Gerry moved to Pembrokeshire to build the Cleddau Bridge and although the company he worked for failed to get the contract, he settled with his family and has lived there ever since.
