HOT on the heels of the Great British Bake-Off, local ladies enjoyed a slice of the action recently at a bake-off battle in Haverfordwest.

Following a qualifying heat in August, finalists brought a variety of treats to the table for a taste-test at the Albany Hall on Thursday, September 5.

Competing in the bake-off were members of LTCL, Pembrokeshire Circle, Inner Wheel club and Haverfordwest WI – the first time members of the four social groups have come together for an event.

Organiser Sally Williams, of Ladies That Can’t Lunch, said the competition had been a great success.

“It was good fun and a nice get-together. We’re definitely going to do it again.”

Biting off as much as they could chew were judges Maria Grimwood from Casa Maria, Lesley Lewis, of the Georges, Simon Price, of Vivente, and Scott Gregory of Caddies Cafe.

Winner of best jam category was Patricia Swales, of Ladies That Can't Lunch, best fruitcake was by Claire Barrah, of Ladies That Can't Lunch, winner of best chutney and fruit tart was Sally Williams, of Ladies That Can't Lunch, and joint winners of best sponge were Tanya Rickard, of Ladies That Can't Lunch, and Gwyneth Perkins, of Inner Wheel.

The next bake-off is planned for the spring. For more information contact Sally Williams on 01437 779090.

The Ladies That Can’t Lunch meet at the Albany Hall on the first Thursday of every month, from 7pm to 9pm.
