PUPILS from Golden Grove School, Pembroke, were given the chance to stretch their legs before class as the walking bus came to town.

The initiative, organised by Communities First in collaboration with Golden Grove School, highlighted the benefits of walking to school as a healthy alternative to going by car or bus.

In addition to Communities First, representatives from Dyfed-Powys Police, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and Safer Pembrokeshire attended the event last Tuesday (September 17).

PCSO Carla Thomas said: “This was the first time Golden Grove School took part in the initiative and the children enjoyed it so much we want to roll out the idea out to at least twice a term from different locations.

“Following the morning walk, a small event was held in the afternoon on the importance of safety in cars – this was facilitated by both the fire and police service.”
