A PETITION has been launched calling for a safe, accessible path from St Dogmaels to Poppit Sands beach.

More than 100 people have so far signed the petition, addressed to Pembrokeshire County Council chief executive Bryn Parry- Jones, which calls for a safe route, suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs, runners, cyclists and walkers.

The petition, set up by Tim Tagg, states the path would provide a key link for pedestrians and cyclists between the village and the beach, as currently the route is dangerous for them.

It adds that the path would ease congestion on the road and at the beach car park, particularly in the holiday season. This petition asks Pembrokeshire County Council to create a path to meet national cycle path standards.

Mr Tagg said: “If you would like to see the new path in place as a pedestrian or cyclist, or just want to improve transport safety for non-motorised transport, then please support the campaign.”

A number of locals and visitors have already signed the petition and commented on the situation.

Richard Jones said: “I run and cycle to Poppit regularly and it can be a pretty dangerous experience on a busy and narrow stretch of road. I would not recommend the walking the road in summer to a family with young children/pushchairs.”

Wendy Barnes-Jones said a path at this location would benefit the local communities, as the narrow road to Poppit is difficult to travel during the busy tourist season.

Rhian West added: “I am a regular road bike user and have experienced the dangers of cycling on the road from St Dogmaels to Poppit. A safe pathway would be beneficial to both the users and the community as a whole by greatly increasing the attraction to the area and supporting the coastal path.”
