WHAT do discussing the rights of the child, keeping fit and healthy, and exploring the plant world have in common? - They are all of the things Lamphey Primary School pupils have been doing recently.

Pupils were among a party of children from Pembrokeshire who visited Margam Park on Tuesday, June 17 to meet the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Keith Towler. They had the opportunity to discuss the Rights of the Child and were very impressed Mr Towler’s enthusiasm and would like to wish him luck as his seven-year term in office comes to an end.

Elsewhere, pupils and staff - with the support of Sustrans officer Sue Mathias, and PCSOs Richard Mason and Dave Henry – travelled to school by scooter, foot or bike on Friday, June 20.

Headteacher Simon Thomas said: “It is so important that we encourage our children to remain fit and healthy, and one of the simplest methods of doing this is by walking, cycling or scooting to school.

“And on a sunny, warm day in Pembrokeshire there is no better way than arriving at school after a brisk walk.”

In other news, year two pupils recently visited Manorbier Garden Centre, where they had a wonderful morning learning about plants from around the world.
