THERE will be a chance to learn more about the history of Jacob's Pill, Pennar today (Wednesday, July 9) as local author Phil Carradice leads a walk around the historic site.
Jacobs' Pill was the site of an independent dockyard, owned by Mr E J Reed, which built the "Hei Yie", an armoured Corvette for the Imperial Japanese Navy launched in 1877.
During the building of the ship, a young Lt Togo, who later become Admiral Togo, oversaw the construction and it is believed he lodged at the Master Shipwright's house in the town.
The launch attracted huge crowds and was attended by His Excellency the Japanese Ambassador Jushie Wooyeno Kagenori and his entourage who arrived in Pembroke Dock on a special train.
The walk will start at 7pm meeting at Gilgal Chapel.
