NEW car sales this year have been the highest on record.

Many people in our society now have more disposable income. But are they better off ?

Do they have a better quality of life? Having personal wealth is fine if you live on your own private island.

Most of us live in a community with the local infrastructure falling to pieces around us.

Cuts to services, hospitals, schools, libraries, parks, public toilets etc. all reduce our quality of life.

I can’t personally provide the funds to pay back the national deficit and pay for all the services that otherwise are being cut. I can however help pay for them through a sensible increase in the tax I pay.

(Taxation allows us to benefit from the things we could not provide for ourselves individually) The latest statement from our government promising tax cuts is ludicrous.

People with excessive wealth, on middle or higher income should be paying more tax. This is the only way to provide the finance to give us all a better quality of life.

Lots of people now can afford a brand new car but try and find a public toilet!
