Over 700 pancakes were cooked, tossed and eaten in Pembroke last Tuesday.

For those eating them, the guilt of wolfing down a calorific snack or two was assuaged by the fact that they were raising money for a good cause.

The eighth annual pancake coffee morning was held in Pembroke Town Hall to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. A team of dedicated volunteers struggled over bowls of batter, hot stoves and full tables to feed Pembroke's pancake hungry.

Another team packed over 400 pancakes into thermal bags and, with the aid of Somerfield trolleys and hot water bottles, delivered them to businesses and shops in the town.

At the time of going to press the morning had raised over £350 for the charity, with more funds expected to come in.

"It was a very successful morning," said Dilys Hamner MBA, President of Macmillan Pembroke. "We had strong support from the shops and businesses in the area, including Chevron.

"By the end of the morning we had run out of batter. It was a good morning with a lovely atmosphere and was very well supported."
