I MUST correct one aspect of Mrs Evans letter (Helicopter concerns). She states that budget cuts are solely responsible for uncertainty about the police helicopter.
They are not.
Like many, I am deeply frustrated by the proposal to stop flying from Pembrey.
That decision is the result of a plan to regionalise some police services.
Labour would take this approach even further. They propose to scrap entire police forces and merge them into regional ‘super-forces’.
They would scrap the local accountability that allows me to insist that our needs in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire are met.
I welcome anyone’s support in securing the helicopter services we need.
Everyone knows there is less money about.
At least in Police and Crime Commissioners we have a strong local voice to insist on our needs.
Labour’s proposal to scrap that voice would make things worse. They are a huge mistake.
