While many restaurants simply pop a cork to serve a glass of wine, a country retreat has decided to go a few steps further and grow the grapes on site.
Jabajak, near Llanboidy, will soon boast a vineyard spread across its grounds.
It is hoped the 2,000 vines will produce quality wines for the restaurant and shops further afield.
Owners Julian and Amanda Steward-Robson invited community and county councillors to witness the first vine being planted on Thursday afternoon and offered them a sample of the wine to be produced.
Amanda's father, Fishguard and Goodwick mayor Mike Lloyd, was also present at the planting ceremony and wished the pair well with their new venture.
Chairman of Carmarthenshire County Council, Councillor Roy Llewellyn, said: "This has been one of the highlights of my year of office. I'm really proud that this is taking place.
"It's a very exciting day for the people of Llanboidy.
"Julian and Amanda have really transformed the place and this is a new challenge for them.
"I'm sure it will turn out to be a real gem, and will bring tourists into the area."
Chairman of Llanboidy community council Hubert Phillips added: "I never dreamt we would see anything like this in this area. I hope we have a good summer for the vines.
"This will really put Llanboidy on the map."
