BEACH cleaners picked up more than they bargained for when they came across a little piece of Hollywood in the sands of Freshwater West.

Mari Williams from Keep Wales Tidy found a tag belonging to the famous New England fishing boat, the Hannah Boden.

The 100ft fishing vessel was the sister ship to the Andrea Gail, which sank during the “Perfect Storm” of 1991.

It was later used in the 2000 blockbuster film of the same name, starting George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg.

With the Hannah Boden registered to the United States, it means the tag, which was used to identify lobster pots, travelled almost 3,000 miles across the Atlantic to the wash up on the Pembrokeshire coast.

It has caused a stir not only for its famous association with the Hollywood film, but because mysteriously all its corners have been cut off.

Mari was keen to get to the bottom of the mystery and has contacted The Atlantic Red Crab Company which owns the Hannah Boden.

She said: “It was exciting to find a tag from such a famous ship, but also baffling as to why the corners might have been cut off. We hope that The Atlantic Red Crab Company will get back to us and help piece the puzzle together.”

Also taking part in the beach clean was the Darwin Centre and Manorbier School as part of the Ocean Motion project.
