A FISHGUARD photographer has had his work shortlisted in international photographic competition to be judged by Dame Judi Dench.

Stephen Lucas has got through to the shortlist in the Down's Syndrome Association's international My Perspective competition.

Stephen's photograph Grizzly Bear, which was taken on Grouse Mountain in Vancouver Canada, was chosen from amongst entries sent from across the world including from the UK, New Zealand, Holland and Greece.

The winners will be revealed at a prestigious ceremony in London tomorrow, Thursday, June 16.

Keen snapper Stephen is a former Ysgol Bro Gwaun and Pembrokeshire College student. As well as photography, he is actively involved with conservation charity Sea Trust, Fishguard's Transition Café and music project Wings Over Pembrokeshire.

He started taking photos about five years ago, inspired by his brother Owen. He predominantly takes shots of wildlife and landscapes and for the past two years has produced and sold calendars showcasing the best of his images.

Stephen has also successfully exhibited and sold his photography at Fishguard Arts Society's open exhibition.

"I took this photo at a park at the top of Grouse Mountain," said Stephen. "The bears there were used to people. I was on a bridge when I saw one further away in the water so I zoomed in and took the shot.

"I'm really excited to have been shortlisted."

As well as Dame Judi, the judging panel for the Down's Syndrome Association's My Perspective competiton includes actress and writer Sally Phillips and Phillipa Proctor who is director of global brand and visual identity at GlaxosmithKline, who have sponsored the award since 2010.

"The My Perspective competition turns the camera around and gives people with Down's syndrome the chance to show the world from their point of view," said a spokesman for the Downs Syndrome Association's.
