The trial of Dyfed Powys police officer David Norman has ended without the jury agreeing on even a majority verdict.
Norman is accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice by making up a complaint against Milford Haven man Richard Roberts.
Norman made a statement claiming Mr Roberts had been "extremely abusive" after police had been called to deal with a row between neighbours in Wentworth Close, Milford.
Norman later agreed Mr Roberts had not used swear words and said he had "misremembered" what had happened.
The jury at Swansea crown court was discharged.
The prosecution is expected to request a retrial and May 15 has already been listed as the start date.
