PEMBROKE Rotarians were highly entertained at their recent evening meeting by the retired Bishop of Lincoln - Rotarian Dr John Saxbee.
His address was based on the theme of Three letters from No 10.
Apart from being extremely interesting and highly informative, it was relayed in a very humorous and entertaining manner.
Dr Saxbee gave a detailed history of his background as a child in the West Country and how he decided to join the Church of England. During his career he had a fairly unique experience of receiving letters from three separate Prime Ministers.
The first letter he received was from the-then Prime Minister John Major on his appointment as Bishop of Ludlow.
Secondly as his appointment as Bishop of Lincoln he received communication from prime minister Tony Blair, and on his retirement in 2011 he was congratulated by prime minister David Cameron.
It was especially interesting to hear of his experiences in the House of Lords as a new Lord Spiritual - he is still a member of the House of Lords.
A vote of thanks was given by Rotarian Harold James, who had organised the event.
