Home-grown star Connie Fisher is returning to the county today, and fans will have a chance to meet her in person.

Connie, who shot to fame after winning the BBC's How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? will be in Victoria Bookshop, from 11.30 this morning.

The 23-year-old, from Hayscastle, will be signing autographs and posing for photos for anyone who wants to attend, until 1pm.

Copies of Connie's album will be available to buy at Victoria Bookshop, but people are also being encouraged to bring their own things along for her to sign.

From 2pm to 4pm, Connie will wander around Riverside Quay to speak to people and have more photos taken.

Andrew Mathias, who is arranging the event, said Connie can't wait to come home and wants to thank everyone who supported her.

He added: "This is the first time she has been back home since she won How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? because she has been doing six shows a week.

"She is really looking forward to coming back. It's primarily a holiday, but on Friday she wants to thank everybody and show her appreciation.

Andrew added Connie is looking forward to walking her dog in the countryside and won't stop talking about it.

Connie has now been contracted to stay on as the lead in The Sound Of Music, the part she won in the TV talent show, until February 2008.

Andrew says she has a lot of interesting and exciting offers on the table, including TV jobs, but she still loves starring as Maria.
