AROUND 850 people - most dressed head to toe in pink - have run 5k to help save lives today (Sunday).

The crowds were taking part in the Cancer Research UK Race for Life held at Scolton Manor.

Organisers said 800 had signed up in advance with many being first timers to the event which raises thousands and thousands of pounds in the fight against cancer.

Dozens more signed up on the gate to tackle the 5k course.

As always, the atmosphere was fantastic with many hundreds of people having very real and personal reasons for wanting to run.

Many write messages of friends or family members battling cancer, or those sadly lost to the disease, as inspiration to take part.

The stifling heat of the last few weeks gave way to humid conditions as runners went to the start line.

Thirteen year-old Ollie George from Crymych was first home in the incredibly fast time of 17 minutes.

Robyn Martin-Smith, 18, from St Davids was the first female home.
