NATWEST, which recently closed three branches in the county, has appointed a community banker for Pembrokeshire and Cardigan.

NatWest announced three Pembrokeshire branch closures last December, with Pembroke shutting in May, and Narberth and Milford Haven in June.

The Cardigan branch also closed at the end of May.

In Narberth, a strong plea has been made to bank bosses to keep the cashpoint, the only outdoor one remaining on the High Street.

Despite fears that trade at local shops and cafes will be hit by customers losing a convenient facility to access their cash, NatWest stood by their decision.

Community Banker Maren Hamre will be based on a weekly basis in Pembroke Town Hall (Mondays, 12pm-2pm), Bloomfield Community Centre, Narberth (Tuesdays, 12pm-2pm), Milford Haven Library (Fridays, 12.30pm-2.30pm) and Coffee#1 in Cardigan (Thursdays, 12.30-2.30pm).

Maren said: “I’m excited to have the opportunity to develop a strong relationship with our customers in Pembrokeshire and the Cardigan area, helping to ensure that NatWest remains an important part of its many thriving communities. The impact of technological changes on the way people bank with us has been dramatic but we’re also aware that not everyone is comfortable with these changes."

“In my role as Community Banker, I’m looking forward to hosting regular events at local venues to help educate customers on being financially fit, training them on the different ways to bank in a digital world and how they can protect themselves from fraudsters.”
