A Pembroke Dock man who drove erratically into a restaurant car park was found to have two controlled drugs in his blood.

Ewan Jones, of Laws Street, pleaded guilty to two charges of driving while over the controlled drug limit when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, October 9.

Sian Vaughan, prosecuting, said concerned staff at McDonalds, Pembroke Dock, alerted police to a driver they believed was intoxicated on June 24.

Jones’ Audi was captured on camera entering the car park.

Miss Vaughan said: “CCTV showed the vehicle being driven in erratically.”

The court heard that Jones, 28, had previously been convicted of drink-driving in 2008, and a blood sample was found to contain diazepam and benzoylecgonine.

Katy Hanson, defending, said: “On this evening he had an argument with his girlfriend and had taken some medication.

“He had intended to sleep in his vehicle and would have made contact with his girlfriend or gone home the next morning.”

Miss Hanson added that Jones, who suffered from depression and anxiety, apologised to the court for the offence.

“The positive news is that he is getting his life back on track.”

Magistrates fined Jones £120 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £30 surcharge.

He was banned from driving for three years.
