NARBERTH Rotakids group is continuing its busy inaugural year with a range of activities in school and the community.

The group, at Narberth CP School, was formed earlier this year under the umbrella of the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland.

Rotakids is a citizenship programme for older primary school children, and its main objective is to introduce Rotary ideals to young people, aiming for them to have fun while they are raising money for charity or serving the community.

One of the Rotary themes for the next 18 months is on the reduction of single-use plastics - a topic also covered by the National Curriculum.

Teachers are looking at how children can help parents make more informed choices about shopping without using plastic. The school is also keen to do litter picks in Amroth and around Narberth town, with the help of Rotarians.

Youngsters have three dates before Christmas to help with the Living Memory Group in Narberth Museum.

They have also invited Rotarians to a matinee performance of their Christmas production.

The school has established links from the Roko 20 school in Kenya and recently received a bag of toys made from banana leaves. Headteacher Nia Ward is now hoping that the Narberth pupils will be inspired by this to make items from natural plant materials.

As a gift from the members of the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland, the pupils were presented with Pudsey, the Children in Need bear, who will now be a permanent resident in the school. Pudsey was kindly obtained by prospective Rotarian, Kirsty Williams from Tenby.
