TWO young men took part in “foolish” shoplifting, a court has heard.

Daniel Thomas Bain, 18, of Victoria Road, Pembroke Dock, and Dewi Thomas, also 18, of Heywood Court, Kilgetty, both pleaded guilty to two charges of stealing from shops in Tenby at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, October 23.

Prosecuting, Abul Hussain told the court the two men had stolen a bottle of strawberries and cream alcohol worth £4.99 from Tenby’s Savers store on September 25.

Then on September 29, they stole a bottle of wine and three chocolate brownies worth £9 in total from Tenby Tesco.

Defending, Jonathan Webb said the two were sorry for the actions they had taken and realised they had been foolish.

“They accept they have been very stupid. They apologise for their actions to the stores and to the court,” he said.

“The bottom line is they have been very, very stupid. I hope they have learned their lesson from being here today.”

Both Bain and Thomas were given 12-month conditional discharges and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Magistrates also ordered the pair to each pay back half of the cost of the goods they stole in compensation, with each repaying £2.50 to Savers, and £4.50 to Tesco.

The chairman of the bench warned Bain and Thomas away from theft in the future.

“A track record of petty theft leads on to more serious things,” he said.
