PORTHMAWR Surf Life Saving Club, on Whitesands, will benefit from a £8,680 grant from the National Lottery Awards for All Scheme.

The club will spend their grant on equipment.

"This support from the National Lottery grant will have a huge impact on our club and will allow us to develop and support our community," said Stuart Penfold, club secretary.

"Surfing has become a sport too expensive for the average person in a rural economy. We will be able to give access to high quality equipment and coaching at very little cost – it feels like a mission accomplished.

"We are incredibly fortunate to have this environment on our doorstep and thankful for the support that will allow people to make the most of it."

Gareth Williams, Funding Manager at the Big Lottery Fund, added:

"Porthmawr identified their project through talking to the club members and the wider community.

"The club had been teaching lifesaving skills but they found there was an appetite for training to surf.

"In response the club applied for the grant and intend to deliver the sessions next summer."
